"It froze," he says before taking a drag from his cigarette, blowing smoke up into the night air. "The entire world froze."

He imagines it has to be possible, considering it's happened before, although he doesn't know what might cause it to happen again. It seems like the sort of thing that shouldn't happen for another million years, then then, for all he knows, she's from a million years into the future.

"How'd that happen?" he asks.
